Born to Ian and JamieLyn McLoughlin, Taryn was the fourth of five children. Raised in midtown Manhattan, she was a bit of a rebel. Rarely attending class she still graduated near the top of the class due to her inherent intelligence. She took to the drums because of their aggressive and destructive allure. Together with her best friend and two other girls, she started a band. She never set out nor expected to be a star, but alongside her best friend Jessenia Alvarez, she was prepared to ride out the storm as long as it continued to rain - and that included playing several shows with a broken collarbone and two broken fingers.
Along the way, Taryn met Lee Baird, to whom she quickly became engaged after just two months of dating, much to her friends' and family's surprise. When he didn't show up on their wedding day in Los Angeles, she chided him, then promptly left town, returning home to New York, where she began a string of non-committal, non-monogamous relationships. Soon after, she met Blake Ramsay.
After dating for just under a year, she and Blake announced their engagement. Shortly following their nuptials, son Gavin was born in Mexico in Year 42, in the midst of both an Angels of Hellfire tour and a Blink 81 (Blake's band) tour. Things carried on happily for several years, until both Taryn and Blake had to face the facts: They were really much better suited as friends, neither truly wished to be married to the other. They split amicably, and Blake went on to marry twice more, once with Taryn as a member of the wedding party. The pair weaved in and out of each other's lives between marriages, more often as lovers than not, but they never again moved past anything more than friends with benefits, though those close to Taryn say there was never a man she cared for more than him.
Back to her life of non-commitment, she had two one-night stands in Nashville (One of the men would go on to meet and marry her friend Abigail) and months later, discovered that she was pregnant. From this, she realized two things: One, that the tubal ligation she'd had after giving birth to Gavin had failed, and two, she did not know who had sired the children. Since she'd never planned on having any kids in her life, and Gavin was enough for her, she made alternative plans. She was too far along in the pregnancy to consider abortion, so she made arrangements with adoption agencies, and planned to have the baby abroad. At one of her checkups, she was informed that she was having not one, but two babies. As her expanding stomach grew more obvious, she sent Gavin to travel with Blake on tour, and she traveled to London.
As she remained incognito, she met other people who were living off the grid, namely mob criminal Mark Lehman. Smitten by him, they both fell hard and fast, and their wedding took place a year later in Montreal. Their happiness was short-lived, and his criminal lifestyle often put her in danger. She was widowed during divorce proceedings when his work caught up with him and he was killed. Taking again to the non-committal dating life, Taryn became involved with Simon Jones, the ex-husband of Jessenia's cousin Tatum, while also carrying on a torrid affair with one one of Gavin's friends.
Both relationships fell by the wayside when the twelve-year-old redhead, Tyler, showed up at her door. Even though she'd never met the girl, she knew immediately it was her daughter. She kept Gavin's questions at bay, keeping him distracted while taking custody of Blake's daughter, whose mother had just died. As Gavin was also expecting a child of his own, Taryn didn't anticipate him having much time to question the child that she referred to as her niece, claiming she was the daughter of her brother Patrick. Taking Tyler with her on the road, Taryn got to know her daughter and learn about her life. The following year, Tyler's twin, Darcy, tracked them down. Taryn carried on the charade that the girls were her nieces for nearly a year before Gavin confronted her, and she confessed.
She met Harry Hawk at Darcy's insistence. He was one of the men she'd slept with that wild night in Nashville, and believed to be the father of the twins. He never asked to take a paternity test, simply acknowledged the girls as his. After dating shortly, the two decided to get married. Each valued their space, and the balance seemed to be just right. Many believed this to be Taryn's final marriage. However, the space soon turned to silence and distance, especially once Hawk moved to London. In the last few years of their marriage, the two saw each other once a year. The day after their tenth anniversary, she filed for divorce.
Taryn entered her sixties starting to embrace her role of grandmother. While she still acted more as a 'cool aunt' to the older ones - Zack, Nicco, Amos, Gia, Ainsley - she tried to spoil the younger ones. No stranger to elective augmentative surgeries, she enjoys having people tell her she doesn't look old enough to be a grandmother, though she's only just started to correct them when they think otherwise.
When Taryn reached her second decade of her 60s, she opted to embrace retirement. She and her new beau Leo Streun had fallen into an easy pattern, with neither making any unreasonable demands on the other, and when he suggested they spirit away to the Bahamas to live a quiet, peaceful existence, she readily agreed.
The first year was an adjustment, as she learned to adapt to island life instead of city life, but she has made the most of it. There is plenty of space for family to come visit, and the security and secluded location affords them privacy and relaxation.
